Types of Ships

WoWs users can test their skills as a warship captain for five different types:

  1. Destroyers have weak armor and small size but, thanks to their high speed and maneuverability, can quickly close in on more armored ships and perform devastating torpedo attacks under the cover of a smoke screen.

  2. Cruisers, a versatile type of weapon with good armor, speed, and maneuverability, combined with relatively high gun damage and the ability to torpedo opponents, are considered the most dangerous enemies.

  3. Battleships, natural floating fortresses due to thick armor, can inflict massive damage from the main caliber guns (from 283 mm) but are notable for their sluggishness and very long reloading of gun turrets.

  4. Aircraft carriers are capable of carrying on their decks 3 to 7 aircraft of various types (attack aircraft, bombers, torpedo carriers), which can form a squadron and seize airspace to inflict massive damage from the air.

The number of combat ships in the World of Warships at the moment is 685 ships of various types belonging to thirteen nations:

There are wide varieties, types, and modes of combat in WoWs.

Types of Battles

There are three varieties of fighting:

  1. Standard, held on regular maps, with the participation of pumped or premium combat ships, with the standard algorithm of selecting opponents.
  2. Festivals are held on special occasions (holidays or memorable dates) and differ in terms of conditions from the standard ones.
  3. Training, during which the conditions are lightened, you can choose opponents and a map for battle.

Types of Battles

The following types of battles are available:

  1. Against Bots (PvE):
    1. cooperative – up to 9 users fighting against an AI squadron;
    2. scenarios – available from level 8, involving particular tasks (base/convoy defense, etc.), conducted in standard and holiday types;
  2. Against other users (PvP):
    1. casual – open after reaching level 3 access, conducted between teams of up to 12 participants;
    2. ranked – team battles on ships that meet specific requirements;
    3. blitz – single or squad fighting with a short duration and a small number of teams.
  3. Clan Battle:
    1. standard – open after level 15 access, available for level X ships in 7×7 teams;
    2. blitz – held during one day, where only victories are counted, and coal is credited to the clan treasury for reaching a level.
  4. Training:
    1. introductory mission – allowing to learn the basics of control and shooting, where the player fights against bots;
    2. training room – opens at level 17 and will enable you to practice skills without using up resources.
  5. Temporal:
  • “Stealth Maneuvers” – designed to test new aircraft carrier mechanics;
  • “Underwater Combat” – designed to test new submarine capabilities;
  • “Asymmetric Combat” – providing for different numbers of participants in opposing teams consisting of players and bots;
  • “General Battle” – a high-level battle with the participation of super battleships, available in the presence of intelligence reports and allows the use of firefights (unique mechanics);
  • “Convoy” – a type of battle consisting of attacking or defending a convoy.

Combat modes

There are three modes for conducting battles:

  1. Excellence” – the winner is determined by the sum of points that are awarded and taken away for each event during the battle:
    1. destroying an enemy or ally;
    2. capturing and holding strongholds.
  2. Standard Battle” – in which the winner is determined by the sum of points similar to the mode “Excellence,” but instead of strongholds, there are team bases that bring a small number of points for possession and are available for capture.
  3. Arms Race” is characterized by the presence of zones that give positive effects during gun reloading or ability point recovery, as well as the periodic appearance of a stronghold that must be captured.

Combat System

In World of Warships, there are several types of weapons that have their specificity:

  1. Main caliber – is the primary means of defeating surface targets through volley fire of shells at enemy ships, carried out in manual mode.
  2. Auxiliary caliber – produced in automatic mode at sufficient proximity to the enemy for firing.
  3. Torpedo launchers – allow attacking surface and underwater targets with torpedoes, which cause the highest damage among the munitions.
  4. Air Groups are links of combat aircraft based on aircraft carriers and some battleships. They perform raids on enemy ships and bombard them.

The Sound Component of the Game

The soundtrack of World of Warships is an essential component of the game and allows you to customize the following parameters flexibly:

  1. Sound effects include various sounds, such as damage, shooting, interface interaction, environment, engines, and voice alerts.
  2. Voiceovers, which provide multiple languages and voices.
  3. Background music can consist of alternating tracks or dynamic changes depending on the situation on the battlefield.
  4. Horns are used for audio alerts to allies.
  5. Voice chat that allows users to communicate.

Investing real money in WoWs gives you an advantage over other users through premium units, additional slots for weapons and captains, accelerated development, and other effects.

Passing the storyline and all available modes is possible without donations but will require more time to earn standard game currency – credits needed to make purchases and improvements.

Investing real money gives access to premium weapons and accelerates his progress, but does not eliminate the need for battles to gain experience, which otherwise can not be earned.

  • relatively high system requirements for the computer.

Differences with World of Tanks

WoWs vs WoT Review

The differences between WoWs and WoT are many, in particular:

  1. The surface of the battlefield is not stationary because of this:
    1. The damage is applied not point by point but by area;
    2. Instead of accuracy, Sigma characterizes the heap of ammunition hits.
  2. The movement of ships is characterized by inertia, so:
    1. it is impossible to stop or quickly move forward/backward immediately;
    2. it is not possible to use rare islands as hiding places;
    3. it would be best to shoot not at the enemy but where he will be when the projectile reaches the target.
  3. The survivability of warships is many times higher than this indicator for tanks, which allows you to withstand dozens of hits and increases the duration of battles.
  4. Parallels between types of weapons are conditional because:
  • A destroyer is incomparable to a light tank, as it can not only light up the enemy but also destroy it on its own with a successful torpedo attack;
  • a cruiser can be compared to a medium tank if you don’t take into account its ability to torpedo the enemy and set up a smoke screen like destroyers;
  • battleships are similar to heavy tanks only in terms of increased armor and gun damage but more like revolver tanks or SPGs if you compare by reloading time;
  • aircraft carriers are very conditionally similar to SPGs because the ship aviation has an entirely different principle of combat and interface;
  • submarines have no analogs with WoT weapons at all.

How World of Warships Feels in 2024

The analysis of the number of registered users of the project shows a steady audience growth. Still, it is not an objective indicator because it does not consider the number of the actual playing audience.

More objective is the figures of online users, which, as of January 2024 for Steam, are:

  • average audience for the period – 7234 people;
  • maximum simultaneous connections – 12653.

These indicators are far from their historical maximums (11574 and 400538, respectively) but are stable and have no dynamics to decrease.

The developers of the project regularly update the content, hold various promotions, expand the arsenal of combat ships, which keeps old users on the project and attracts new ones.
