After pressing the LKM, when a torpedo squadron approaches a target, the control is switched to attack mode, which displays a trapezoid showing the boundaries of the torpedo attack.
- The circle shown by the dotted line indicates the boundary from which the attack will be made. To change the direction of the attack, you must move the squadron icon along it.
- After setting up the attacking sector, you must press the LKM again to make the torpedo carrier squadron perform the attack.
- If, during targeting, the aircraft is attacked by enemy attack aircraft or bombarded by an air defense system, the targeting sector will widen, making it difficult to aim at the target.
The farther away from the enemy torpedoes are dropped, the wider the aiming area and the lower the chance of hitting the target, especially if it is turned bow or stern instead of sideways.
It is possible to narrow the spread of torpedoes by manually dropping them at close range.
How to Manually Drop Torpedoes
You must press the “Alt” key to perform a manual reset. The sight will not be displayed, so the action must be performed when the target is directly visible on the approach to it.
Do not drop torpedoes too close to the target because the ammunition needs 1 second for warhead detonation, without which detonation does not occur, and the charges just hit the ship’s hull.

In addition to narrowing the target sector, manual release allows torpedoing to be performed close without giving the enemy an attack.
Tips for Manually Dropping Torpedoes
When manually torpedoing, it is necessary to take into account:
- The ammunition is 1 second long, so performing the drop at a short distance is required.
- No allied ships should be in the way because they will be hit by torpedoes traveling in a straight trajectory.
- The best target is the side of the enemy ship, so you must come in for the drop from the side.
- A two-pronged attack increases the probability of success:
- One link comes in from the port side, and the second link is delayed in attacking the bow;
- The first link drops torpedoes, and the enemy begins an evasive maneuver and exposes the board to the attack of the second link.
Manual Torpedo Drop Does not Work in World of Warships in 2024
The ability to manually drop torpedoes is unlocked after an aircraft carrier reaches level VI, so if the “Alt” key doesn’t work, you need to level up your ship.
