The Best Submarines in World of Warships in 2024

Best Submarines in World of Warships

Submarines have appeared in World of Warships relatively recently but already have their fans who prefer to sneak up on their opponents and inflict crushing damage from under the water column.

The list of submarines is still growing and has a limited number of combat vessels, among which only a few can be of interest to the sophisticated player.

The best submarines in WoWs in 2024, what are their advantages and disadvantages will be discussed below.

Top Submarines in World of Warships in 2024

Unlike surface combat vessels, submarines do not appear at every level but after one, similar to aircraft carriers, starting from level VI.

Accordingly, only three submarines in WoWs can be considered worthy of attention, and their characteristics will be considered.

Tier VI: U-69

U-69 WoWs Guide

The deadliest submarine at Tier VI is the German U-69, which requires 40000 experience to research and costs 4.5 million credits to buy.

The advantages of the German submarine are as follows:

  1. Long autonomy of 230 units, allowing you to stay underwater for 4 minutes, which can be extended by 1.5 minutes if you use the three available consumables. Air consumption and replenishment is 1 unit per second.
  2. Good maneuverability, allowing the submarine to dodge depth bombs and torpedo attacks, taking turns with a radius of 370 meters and switching onboard rudders in 4.14 seconds.
  3. Good camouflage, allowing it to remain invisible up to 5.66 km with a torpedoing range of 11.502 km.
  4. A relatively high single torpedo hit damage of 7533 units, allowing up to 30132 units of damage in a successful salvo at the enemy from all four bow vehicles.

The disadvantages of the U-69 are:

  • weak armor, which is 16mm thick all around, making surfacing within range of enemies highly undesirable;
  • low survivability of 10200 units, which makes emergency resurfacing even less desirable.

All in all, the German U-69 could be a worthy combat support vessel for the main force if its stealth and large kill radius can be exploited through stealthy sneaking, torpedoing, and immediate diving tactics to evade pursuit.

Tier VIII: Salmon

Salmon WoWs Guide

The best combination of features among Tier VIII submarines is the American Salmon, researched for 161,000 experience and purchasable for 11.5 million regular game credits.

The merits of the American submarine hunter are as follows:

  1. Good camouflage, allowing it to remain stealthy:
    1. At a range of 5.96 kilometers when detected from the sea;
    2. 2.2 kilometers for aerial surveillance.
  2. High speed in the surface position of 33 knots, combined with a steep turning radius, makes it possible to evade fire by making rapid evasive maneuvers.
  3. High range of 11,001 km of homing torpedoes, each of which, in the case of an aimed hit, can cause damage of 7833 units.
  4. Standard torpedoes can be fired at a distance of up to 9 km without using sonar, remaining invisible to the enemy and causing damage of up to 13867 units on a successful hit.

The Salmon’s weaknesses are as follows:

  • low sonar range, reload time, and torpedo performance compared to other submarines (U-190);
  • no backup batteries;
  • only two aft torpedo tubes out of 4 available can be serviced at a time, which can be reloaded within 48 seconds;
  • low speed of 16 knots when submerged.

The U.S. submarine Salmon has a number of advantages that allow it to inflict a fairly high damage to enemies, quickly change its position while in a surface position, and remain unseen.

Tier X: Balao

Balao WoWs Guide

At the top of the US submarine technology tree is the Balao, Tier X, available to learn with 355,000 experience and worth 28 million credits.

The advantages of the Balao are as follows:

  1. Excellent maneuverability, allowing:
    1. reach speeds of up to 30 knots on the surface or 26 knots after diving;
    2. turn a radius of 590 meters;
    3. to change rudders in 7.2 seconds.
  2. It’s not bad. The autonomy reserve of 276 units allows you to stay underwater for about 270 seconds with a consumption rate of 1 unit per second. The air resupply rate after surfacing is relatively high at 1.3 units per second.
  3. There are six forward and four aft torpedo tubes, each of which can inflict a single unit of damage:
    1. by homing munitions – 7,833 units;
    2. standard torpedoes – 14967 units.
  4. High massive damage with a successive salvo first from the bow guns and then from the stern guns:
    1. 149670 with standard ammunition;
    2. 78330 by homing torpedoes.

The disadvantages of the American Hunter are as follows:

  • a low survivability margin of 20,200, which, combined with 19mm armor, makes the vessel highly vulnerable in a surface position;
  • prolonged reloading of the sonar signal;
  • only four guns (2 fore / two aft) can be reloaded simultaneously;
  • mediocre camouflage.

Very good underwater hunter with excellent mass damage due to multiple torpedo launchers, but vulnerable in surface position due to weak armor, low survivability and poor camouflage.
