How to Dodge Torpedoes in World of Warships

Torpedoes cause the most significant damage in WoWs, a targeted salvo that can sink almost any ship, including battleships.

Torpedo attacks pose the greatest threat and can be launched from various units of combat equipment – ships, submarines, or airplanes.

Let’s find out how to dodge torpedoes in World of Warships below.

How to Detect Torpedoes

To dodge torpedoes, you must first detect them to understand their direction of travel and sector of impact.

Some ships may be equipped with “Hydroacoustic Search” to detect torpedo attacks at a distance sufficient for quick maneuvering.

Without specialized hydroacoustic equipment, the only way to detect torpedoes is visual identification, particularly by indirect identification:

  • the close presence of destroyers or cruisers alongside because that is where the launchers are placed;
  • an air raid, during which the planes do not approach the ship and do not fire missiles or drop bombs;
  • characteristic traces of torpedo movement or acoustic guidance by submarines.

How to Locate Torpedoes in WoWs

To avoid being torpedoed, you must perform an evasive maneuver, which can be done in any available way:

  • hiding behind various obstacles;
  • making a sharp turn;
  • changing speed.

Using Natural Obstacles

The presence of many islands or other floating obstacles on the location can become a salvation from torpedo attacks if they are between the ship and the enemy ship or submarine.

For this method to work, you need to maneuver continuously, preventing the enemy from approaching.

Changing Course

If enemy warships or approaching aircraft are in sight, you can abruptly change course by turning bow or stern toward the enemy.

Since torpedoes move at wide intervals, this tactic dramatically reduces the potential area of impact so that the number of hits can be reduced to zero.

The evasive maneuver will be effective if the enemy is far away and the ship has a small turning radius.

Speed Change

If torpedoes are not homing, their trajectory is straight lines drawn from the enemy ship.

If it stops abruptly or increases its speed, the torpedoes can pass in front of or behind the ship respectively.

To be able to use such tactics, it is necessary to maintain an average ship speed that will allow:

  • stop faster because the distance of travel by inertia will be shorter;
  • to accelerate because of the speed margin.
