The computer game market continues to develop rapidly, and there are increasingly exciting proposals for fans of maritime themes. Let’s consider the best games about ships relevant to 2026.
World of Warships

It would not be wrong to say that this multiplayer action was the first time the community saw such scale and realism. With this genre of games about ships and maritime adventures, it began to be widely popularized. Of course, there have been games using watercraft before.
The developers of World of Warships gave their brainchild not only to PC players but also ported it to consoles.
In each battle, large armadas of two opposing teams clash. All players enter the battlefield with their ships. The game offers dozens of boats with different characteristics, sizes, countries, and tactics.
Each ship is improved within a deeply developed system, but to maximize the pumping of any of them will have to spend a lot of effort due to the financial model of the company, requiring a large investment of cash for those who do not want to spend extra time on pumping.
War Thunder

War Thunder appeared a little later than World of Warships and immediately became the game’s main competitor. At the same time, the project has the main cardinal difference from WoWs—battles here occur not only on ships but also on tanks and even aircraft.
The project is also available in different versions on several platforms, including PC, PS, and Xbox. Everyone can try to be an essential participant in a large-scale battle for free, but for easy pumping, the characteristics of combat vehicles will also need real investment. Of course, you can do without them. Although the process will be slowed down, each player can perform well.
Separately, the developers’ meticulous approach to the technique is worth highlighting. The game presents a considerable number of classes of equipment:
- aircraft carriers;
- destroyers;
- cruisers;
- battleships;
- helicopters;
- airplanes;
- tanks.
Each class is worked out in maximum detail and requires from the player an individual approach to the style of play.
Sea of Thieves

The next game is similar to the previous ones, but only because of the sea theme. However, it is a different genre with a bias towards situations unfolding on the very board of the ship. There is also an online mode but with cooperative interaction. In other words, you have to play in a team and achieve a common goal, and the battles are only between a team of real players and artificial intelligence. That’s why you can’t play Sea of Thieves alone.
A team of several real players gets their ship full of interactive mechanics. Most of them require teamwork; only in this way will you be able to activate the ship and search for treasure, which is the game’s primary goal.
Random encounters with pirates, small islands with activities, an adventurous atmosphere on board and even an encounter with the Kraken – all this awaits players in Sea of Thieves.
Blackwake

This project is not so popular but worthy of a place in the top ten of the best games about ships and sea battles. As in the previous game, only cooperative mode is available here, which requires a cohesive team of players. Blackwake is perfect for companies, but choosing another option for solo gaming is better.
Nevertheless, the battles here are held between teams of real people. Up to 54 players are connected to the servers, evenly distributed across small and large ships. There are two factions in total: pirates and Englishmen. Everyone chooses their side before the battle begins.
The game has an interesting system of dividing responsibilities by rank. Newcomers can get on the ship only in the role of sailors. They must fix the deck, patch holes, wash floors, and bring cannonballs to the cannons. The more experienced the player is, the more opportunities he gets, up to the complete freedom of the ship’s captain.
Blazing Sails

It is another cooperative action game with its style of drawing graphics and the possibility of broad customization of the ship with all characters. Otherwise, Blazing Sails reminds me of Blackwake and Sea of Thieves: pirate battles between real players, teamwork on the boat, and many interaction mechanics.
The game uses the Battle Royal model: each battle starts separately with a fixed number of players and ships. They all fight against each other, with players only teaming up within their boat. The last remaining pirates in the water area win. The rewards include treasure, customization objects, and valuable items for future battles.
Windward
In sixth place is the isometric real-time strategy game Windward, released on PC in 2015. The game can be played alone or with friends; in the second case, the full potential of naval battles is revealed.
The project’s features are procedural world generation and deeply developed artificial intelligence. Each match will be unique because the landscape and objects constantly differ. Players will have to adjust their strategy every time to the realities of a new map, and there are no universal tactics.
Otherwise Winward is not very different from other RTS: players divide into factions, develop them, participate in trade and fight with each other. There is a flexible session setting for individual division of players into allied teams.
UBOAT

UBOAT is hard to compare with other games in our top 10 because it is an entirely different genre and setting. However, in terms of mechanics and principles, the game is similar to Fallout Shelter. There is no multiplayer mode, only single-player.
The story centers on a German submarine from the Second World War. Many soldiers are on the ship and have found themselves in an unenviable situation: they are alone in the middle of the ocean, have limited resources, and constantly receive tasks with hard choices from the command.
The player needs to monitor the condition of the entire crew and the submarine itself. This includes maintaining and repairing all modules and competent distribution of resources and tasks between wards. But all this is meaningless if you fail to fulfill the main task – survival and reach the end.
Sinking Simulator

7th place – another game that is not similar to other marine adventure projects. Although the release occurred in 2013, Sinking Simulator uses outdated pixel graphics. The developers explain it by the fact that only in this way it was possible to realize all the conceived mechanics so that they were as detailed and spectacular as possible.
The game has no plot, specific goal, tasks, or anything we are used to in ordinary projects. This is a well-designed ship destruction simulator with complete freedom of action. The player only requires one thing—to decide how to destroy the ship. Thankfully, the developers have provided dozens of exciting methods for this.
Atlantic Fleet

Atlantic Fleet is another strategy, but now it is turn-based and without economics. The developers tried to make the most detailed and realistic naval battles, taking into account all their nuances and principles. At the same time, players must make tactical and strategic decisions.
The story centers on World War II and the Battle for the Atlantic, where the anti-Hitler coalition and the Nazi navy acted as opposing sides.
Features of the Atlantic Fleet:
- 30 missions that replicate historical events;
- detailed story campaigns, allowing you to plunge into the atmosphere of that time and feel its hardships for both sides;
- a unique system of ship durability without the usual health points; everything depends on physics;
- single-player battle editor with flexible settings;
- many types of ships, submarines, and even airplanes.
Sailwind

Let’s finish the top with another unique project from Raw Lion Workshop. This game does not feature battles, pirates, or action. It is suitable for fans of quiet rest and contemplation.
The main character has his ship. On it, he delivers cargo and fish, participates in trade on land, and enjoys a quiet life. The player must monitor the ship’s and its captain’s states, earn money, and improve his boat.
A great option for fans of simulators and survival games.
