Ship battle tactics include several essential components and one of the most significant is the mode of firing at opponents, which determines the damage dealt, and the opponents’ life spans.
Each warship has several gun turrets on the deck with different numbers of barrels, from which you can fire single shots once or consecutively or fire salvos from all guns.

Firing Modes in World of Warships
There are several firing modes in WoWs, each of which is activated differently and used in different cases:

Single Shots
Do single shots struggle to do much total damage, but they can be helpful in several cases:
- Any shot in World of Warships is fired at a location where the enemy will be by the time the projectile arrives, so you set a preposition, which a targeting shot can verify;
- You can increase the number of hits by firing a few single shots with varying preemptions, but this takes more time and skill than a simple cascade or salvo.
Experienced players, who have shot their main calibers, neglect the single-shot mode of fire, considering it redundant.
Cascade Fire
Cascade allows you to fire consecutive shots from all guns with a time delay, resulting in:
- the enemy has a better chance to dodge through the hail of shells, increasing its speed;
- when braking as an evasive maneuver, the probability of hits increases.
The mode can be used as an alternative to salvo firing.
Salvo Fire
A salvo implies the simultaneous firing of all guns into a single area of points bounded by an ellipse whose size depends on the Sigma value of the main caliber.
The advantage of a salvo is the high total damage in case of a targeted hit, while the disadvantage is the long reloading time and the waste of a large amount of ammunition in case of a miss.
When Use Fire All Guns at Once in 2024
Making a simultaneous salvo from all barrels of the main caliber is advisable when the target is shot; the speed and direction of its movement are precise, so the probability of aiming cover is high enough.
A salvo from all guns will be effective if the distance to the enemy is short, because then he will simply not have time to perform an evasive maneuver.
Minuses of Fire All Guns at Once
The main disadvantages of salvo firing:
- lack of ammunition in the main caliber guns while they are reloading and inability to fire;
- high consumption of shells, overhead in case of misses.
