Finding Lazarus’ hiding place is one of the key tasks in the big “Defender of the Faith” mission from the Covenant faction. The goal is to expose Lazarus’ corrupt practices.

Getting Started
The quest begins with a dialog with Tretiak, who manages the financial affairs of the Covenant. He will inform you that donations from merchants/craftsmen to the organization have dropped and will ask you to deal with the problem by finding the culprits. Tretiak does not seek violence but wishes to give them a chance to mend their ways.
After the conversation, you’ll receive the first quest, “Sacrificing Something”, which requires interaction with three characters: Lazarus, Theodore Bayonet, and Father Simon.
Communicating with Lazarus
Lazarus is a merchant in the Covenant’s area of influence. When talking to him, he will state that he knows nothing about money scams and always gives his share. However, his words are questionable.
To confirm or deny these speculations, you need to move on and interact with other traders.
Assisting Theodore Bayonet
Theodore will express his distrust of Lazarus’ activities and offer to perform an errand to obtain information about him—to sprinkle the weapons of four Covenant soldiers with holy water as a religious rite.
After the execution, return to Bayonetta. He will share important data: Lazarus cheated, claiming that he has little profit and clientele. He will also mention his former assistant, the Deserted One, who may know more.
Before meeting with the Desolationist, purchase a tin of Tourist’s Joy. This will help get him talking, as he has taken a bread vow and shuns food. In the conversation, mention Lazarus and blackmail him with food. Then, he will reveal the coordinates of the cache.
Where Lazarus’ Stash is
Lazarus’ items are in the Temple Mire location. After getting the mark from the Wastelander, head to the industrial building—the grain elevator. On the first floor, you will see two pale green cisterns. On the top of the tank, on the right side, there will be a backpack, which we need.
It contains:
- A notebook with Lazar’s “black” accounting, proving in detail his fraud;
- He hid a bag of money and valuables from the organization.
Father Simon
After opening the cache, go to Father Simon. He immediately admits the shortage and explains that he owes debts to the soldiers to whom he often repaired weapons on credit.
Your actions:
- The gunsmith will point out five soldiers with AEK-971 rifles;
- Find these soldiers, remind them of the debt, and collect the funds;
- Return the full amount to Father Simon.
As a result, he will give the missing part of the donation.
Final
Go back to Tretiak and talk about the results:
- Lazar hid income and engaged in fraudulent activities, taking some of the interest for himself;
- The problem with Father Simon’s debts is solved – there is nothing to blame him for.
